Captive Husbandry Varanus Albigularis
I am currently housing my 1.1 V. Albigularis in a large walk in Enclosure measuring 9’L, 5’W, 6’H.
This Custom Built Enclosure has a Large Poly Tub that measures 5’L, 4’W, 2’H.
This tub holds Sandy soil substrate topped with leaf litter to help hold humidity in the substrate for digging and nesting.
A Large Kane heat panel on the front side of the tub heats the substrate.
Soil temperature range from 80°F to 95°F.
Ambient air temperature ranges from 80°F to 90°F with basking areas in access of 135°F!
Water Feature in this Enclosure is a large black plastic mortar tub, with a drain.
Drain is plumbed right to my sump pit for easy daily water changes.
This Enclosure is equipped with 35 year old barn wood shelves as well as multiple Large Cork tubes and hollow Logs!
I keep my V. Albigularis on a 12 hour on 12 hour off light cycle.
I feed my V. Albigularis a wide variety of whole prey items consisting of Rodents, Quail and Quail eggs.
V. Albigularis are Native to Africa
I have successfully Bred V. Albigularis, and have eggs incubating.
