Varanus Mertensi

Captive Husbandry of V. Mertensi.

I am housing 1.2 Adults in an 8’L, 4’W, 6’H Custom built Enclosure.

This Enclosure features a 300 gallon pond as Mertens are highly Aquatic! In addition they have lots of climbing opportunities via logs, branches and cork tubes.

The land area doubles as a nest box for egg laying. On the backside of this tub I use a large Kane Heat Panel to heat the soil from 80° F to 95° F.

I feed my Mertens a wide variety of whole prey items including Fish, Quail and Quail eggs, some Rodents and Krill as a treat.

Ambient Temperatures are steady at 80°F to 95°F with basking areas of 140°F.
Water Temperature is 80°F.

I keep them on a 12 hour on 12 hour off light cycle.

V. Mertensi are a hardy species of Monitor Lizard. They have an extremely high prey drive and are SAVAGE feeders!

V. Mertensi are Native to Australia.

I have been successful Breeding this Species!

Varanus Cumingi

Captive Husbandry of V. Cumingi.

I am currently housing my 1.1 V. Cumingi in a large walk in Enclosure measuring 9’L, 5’W, 6’H.

This Custom Built Enclosure has a Large Poly Tub that measures 5’L, 4’W, 2’H.

This tub holds Sandy soil substrate topped with leaf litter to help hold humidity in the substrate for digging and nesting.

A Large Kane heat panel on the front side of the tub heats the substrate.
Soil temperature range from 80°F to 95°F.

Ambient air temperature ranges from 80°F to 90°F with basking areas in access of 135°F!

Water Feature in this Enclosure is a large black plastic mortar tub, with a drain. Drain is plumbed right to my sump pit for easy daily water changes.

This Enclosure is equipped with 35 year old barn wood shelves as well as multiple Large Cork tubes and hollow Logs!

I keep my V. Cumingi on a 12 hour on 12 hour off light cycle.

I feed my V. Cumingi a wide variety of whole prey items consisting of Rodents, Fish, Shrimp, Quail and Quail eggs.

V. Cumingi are Native to the Philippines.

My Adults are Captive Bred and Born Animals and are super docile!

Years ago I had 1.2 Wild Caught adults that were not docile at all!!

I have successfully Bred this species and have eggs in the incubator.

Varanus Jobiensis

Captive Husbandry of V. Jobiensis.

I currently house 1.3 V. Jobiensis in a Custom built Enclosure measuring 8’L, 4’W, 6’H.

With Large Poly tubs that hold the moist substrate consisting of Sandy Soil topped with leaf litter to help maintain proper humidity for digging and nesting.

A Large Kane heat panel on one side of the tub heats the substrate to 80°F to 95°F.

Ambient air temperature range from 80°F to 95°F with basking temperatures of 130°F.

Enclosure furnishings are Logs, Vines and several Cork tubes. Along with lots of Faux Foliage that has 2 purposes.

It give them Visual barriers to help lower stress and for aesthetics!

Water Feature is a Large Black Mortar Tub with a drain that is plumbed to my sump pit. This makes Daily Water changes an easy chore!

I feed my V. Jobiensis a wide variety of whole prey items consisting of Roaches, Quail, Quail eggs, some Rodents and Fish.

V. Jobiensis are Native to New Guinea.

I have successfully Bred V. Jobiensis.

Currently no eggs cooking yet.

Varanus Albigularus

Captive Husbandry of V. Albigularis

I am currently housing my 1.1 V.

Albigularis in a large walk in Enclosure measuring 9’L, 5’W, 6’H.

This Custom Built Enclosure has a Large Poly Tub that measures 5’L, 4’W, 2’H.

I maintain a group of 5 Kimberley Rock Monitors 2.3 in a Custom Built Enclosure measuring 4'L, 18"W, 5'H.

All decked out, hand sculpted and painted using Zoopoxy over Styrofoam to Create the Beautiful Rocky Cliffs well known in the region.

A few Branches and Artificial Foliage complete the setup.

I maintain Ambient Temperatures of 80°F to 95°F, with multiple Basking areas in excess of 130°F!

Day/Night Light Cycle is 12 on, 12 off.

The only dirt provided is in a heated Nest Box with Temperatures of 80°F to 90°F to offer a Good Thermogradient for Nesting Females.

I Offer a Varied Diet Consisting of Roaches, Crickets, Chopped Pinkies, Fish, Quail and Quail eggs!

Kimberley Rock Monitors are indigenous to the Kimberley Region of Western Australia.

Varanus Acanthurus

I maintain a group of 1.2 Ridge Tail Monitors in a Custom Built Enclosure measuring 4'L, 3'W, 5'H.

This Enclosure consists of a high basking shelf & multiple cork hollows.
A few Branches and Artificial Foliage complete the setup.

I maintain Ambient Temperatures of 80°F to 95°F, with Basking areas in excess of 130°F!

Day/Night Light Cycle is 12 on, 12 off.

The Entire Bottom of this Enclosure is 24" of dirt.

I maintain a group of 1.2 Pilbara Rock Monitors in a Custom Enclosure measuring 3'L, 18"W, 3'H.

I maintain a 1.2 Trio in a Custom Built Enclosure measuring 2'L, 2'W, 2'H.

In this Custom Enclosure I have a Barn Wood Basking Shelf & A Barn Wood Plank on the surface of the substrate.
A Cork Hollow and Artificial Foliage complete the setup.

I maintain Ambient Temperatures of 80°F to 95°F, A Basking area in excess of 130°F!

The Entire Bottom of this Enclosure is 6" of Sandy Soil.

I maintain a group of 2.1 Pygmy Mulga Monitors in a Custom Built Whiskey Barrel Enclosure measuring 2'L, 2'W, 3'H.

This Enclosure consists of a high basking shelf & multiple cork hollows.
A few Branches and Artificial Foliage complete the setup.

I maintain Ambient Temperatures of 80°F to 95°F, with Basking areas in excess of 130°F!
